Strange that we haven't heard from Officer Crisman as of yet.

We're declining at a similar rate, but with no jobs, no stores, and -35F common in the winter, I can understand why...

Sorry.....just saw the thread. Been busy at work/moonlighting and it's time for bed now......gotta be at work quite early (back on patrol). I'll post my view on things tomorrow.

Park space, is this referring to parking space or park, as in natural spaces with trees, rivers, etc.? If the latter, we have some superb parks, really.

So does Toledo! Must be an Ohio thingy.

If I lived in Cleveland there'd be no doubt that the staff at the Great Lakes Brewing Co. would have ongoing employment and no reason to leave!!

When Howard came to "stay" with Shari and I, the day he showed up we dropped him off at the GLB Co. and picked Aitch up to take him back to the airport a few days later.

I will agree with Jeff that we do have some fantastic parks in the area......but really only if you are near the edge of the city itself. I am a 5 minute walk from a wonderful well maintained park with hiking/bike trails, plenty of wildlife, a clean river and excellent scenery. Lake Erie is 5 minute drive......but I only like it when it is choppy and i borrow a buddy's jet ski.....I try to keep the swimming to a minimum unless the shoreline is well in the distance (unless of course I feel like adopting a parasite). The Cavs are doing great, the Indians are up and down and the Browns are depressing. The RRHOF, IMO, is a joke and embarrassment. There are top shelf eateries, museums and music readily available. Then there's The Cleveland Clinic for "world class" healthcare (that's what the commercials say anyway......but they seem to be doing well for themselves).

The environment is certainly an issue. Spring through Fall is great.....I like the variation. Winter is just a time to catch up on what got pushed aside due to Summer activities. I hate the snow and cold as I'm sure many others do.

"Image" is certainly an issue.....the burning river lives on. The city is generally a disaster and unfriendly to visitors. Parking nazi officers love to drive away people willing to come into the city.....and poor security almost insures some sort of car sorrow if you aren't somewhat cautious with where you leave your vehicle. The general city motto is "do more with less.....much less". Safety forces have been downsized and redeployed to provide "stats" rather than where a difference could actually be made. The city doesn't seem to want the police to do police work..... if anything comes into question being hung out to dry is a certainty. I understand that if I do something wrong I should be held accountable and I accept that but the city has taken the witch hunt to new levels recently. Safety force morale is by far the lowest that I have seen in my 13 years on the job. I still love to work and actually help somebody in need but being so concerned with covering yourself and worried about backlash for aggressively doing your job takes it's toll and is ultimately reflected in performance. Besides, as far as general safety goes, we are reactionary and with the economy being the way it is crime is on the rise. Couple that with the downsizing and bizarre redeployment and there are bound to be safety issues. Sorry for drifting on a tangent there.....

The mayor and council members refuse to work together and see the big picture. They should be working with surrounding communities as well but everyone is so concerned with their personal monarchy that there is no chance of working together (regionalizing) which is something the area desperately needs. There is no apparent concern for the future, just how can pockets be stuffed today. There is no plan or direction on how to bring the city or area back to life.......we seemed to be getting there for a little while but the greed took over and the inept crept back to power. Lets not even speak of the heinous Cleveland school system.....constant levies and not an improvement to be had unless they cook the proficiency scores.

The mortgage "crisis" (white collar stealing) really tore through the inner city area and have left some areas in total blight. There is the loss of tax base and on the flipside you have responsible hardworking people having to carry the bill of those who can't and those footing the bill also get ****** service from the city (unplowed roads, roads in poor condition, poor maintenance of the city) so why not leave to a city where you are appreciated?

I'd move from the city if I could. I have to live in the city itself because of a residency clause in the city charter for city workers.......it is being challenged in the State Supreme Court soon so hopefully I'll be able to choose where my tax dollars go shortly. Don't get me wrong.....I love my house/yard and my neighborhood. Very safe area (one of the last nice city neighborhoods so there are lots of cops, firemen, EMS workers around.......which can also be not so good sometimes) but at some point my wife wants horses and I want an 8 car garage so we'll need more land which means we'll be heading out to the rural 'burbs in the future. Hopefully Cleveland doesn't take the whole area down the toilet with it.

Just a few random thoughts on the issue. Blah, blah, blah.......

A plus for Cleveland is that the Christmas Story house is located there.
