The nice thing about the trio setting--one nice thing--is the added exposure and the extra sonic room for the bass to take up.

The nice thing about jazz in general is the utter primacy of the bass in the music. The vast majority of jazz at least.

finally got to hear these 2 tracks over a 3 way cambridge soundworks with subwoofer, and i have to say....bravo! both are great,cooking tracks,really enjoyed the interplay you 3 had. i thought the bass sounded great as well,i had it cranked up.... really enjoyed the intro to the 2nd track,not the sort of playing you typically hear someone attempt on a ric,but it rocked! ...or jazzed,if you prefer..... thanks for posting that,josh!

Very fine tracks Joshua. You are definitely the lock in both grooves.

Anyone who thinks the bass is not important or should not be up in the mix knows nothing about music in a group. OUr bass player has been turning down at practice (of his own volition) and we lost all timing and mind-synch. We finally got him to turn back up and the whole band solidified and became tight again. Our weakest spot is our drummer and Joe Bass keeps him right where he is supposed to be.

Our bassists are the entire canvas and base painting that we guitards can paint details onto. Most important member of the band IMO. Particularly when you are playing fine jazz like yours J. I agree with the Stanley Clarke/Al DiMeola comment entirely.
