Ron, I never bonded with that bass when I got it. The neck had an S shape to it (ended up being the rods heavily curved and flipped over), the tailpiece was lifted up about 1/4" from 3 years of HEAVY tension LaBella rounds, and I wasn't than hot on BT. I got the 2 problems quickly sorted, and came to a pleased peace with BT. But the sound was not to my liking - too aggressively muddy. So I put in a '73 higain I had and an 8k Sergio rewound coil magnetic shoe bridge pickup and can't seem to put it away and take out another. Love it and the neck.

Good story... really puts me in my place for getting down in the dumps when the action on one of my basses goes up a hair and having to spend 5 minutes with a 1/4'' driver...

john-stunning bass! i love the combination of chrome/black parts for the pickups/bridge---that would look great on a jetglo as well,i think.....

I find it most interesting that even though Rics are one of the best guitars direct from the factory, tons of players rework them on a regular basis. Sometimes the rework is due to a repair, but others are just to make the guitar unique to the owner's desires. Within two weeks of receiving my bass I swapped out the bridge. A few months later I had a new 1/2" guard and installed a toaster. Now, I am waiting for Tony to get back from Namm so he can make me a 1/2" guard in black pearloid. After that, vintage knobs. All of this, even though I loved my 4003 straight out of the box.

The guitar players in the band think I have a screw loose. (maybe I do) They each have 3 guitars and have not modified any of them. Neither of them plays a Ric.

BTW, this reply is not meant as a criticism. While I do enjoy seeing everyone's stock, fresh from the factory basses, the one's that have been personalized are truely exciting. Who says that children are the only one's with an imagination?!

Nice job on your MG S, John. I like the contrast of the chrome with the BT. And great job putting the two extra screws on your tail piece. Now you'll never have to deal with that problem again.

My favorite! All three of my Rics fall into the "S" category. Here's my #1 player - heavily modified. The only original parts are the wood/finish, frets, (3) machine heads, pots/switches/wiring harness, and nut. I need to do a bass photo session when the weather breaks. Gotta use a live shot.

The Jetglo one used to belong to Mark Henson; the Mapleglo one I got for a steal at BassNW. it is now with awaiting a refin from our esteemed Paul W. Just fantastic basses.
