Yep, and I spoke to Dana Mosely briefly, too. Nice lady.

Apparently, she's hooked in with Japan (the catalogs were produced there) and the Mark II guitars and basses are still made there. But the big news are the USA-made instruments, proced where they sgould be at MSRP $2599.00.

The USA-made burst Ventures 6 stringer was a knockout. It nailed the '60s vibe.

Did not hear it, though...she hand-winds the pickups on these. Yikes.

Yep - the USA and Japanese models felt and sounded very close to one another, but the US ones had the edge in looks IMO. They have one dealer at the moment - something called Front Porch Music in Bakersfield, CA. I think I'm going to be ordering a new one - low serial number and all. I'm thinking Pepto-Bismol Pink (she said they'ed do custo colors!).

I like the recreation of the Red/White/Blue specials Semie did in the mid '60s! The mark 1 has always been one of my favourite guitar designs - it has a weird 50s sci-fi vibe.....

The RRP makes my '65 Ventures look like a steal! With the AUD where it is, I'd better start saving now for a purchase in 2012...

Any leads on contacts etc? I've scoured the web with no luck...

I would have liked to order a new one, but have not been able to reach Front Porch Music. The Fillmore (Japanese) ones are apparently only available from Ed Roman, or directly from Japan.

Congrats on the acquisition! Are the frets as micro as the originals?

The very thought of dealing with the dude from Nevada makes me nervous..... The Fillmores pop up at Ishibashi and Kurosawa avery so often - a way better bet!

I'll stick with my '65 for the time being. With TI flats it is unsurpassed.... and the myths about fragility are totally unfounded.

Thanks! I haven't played it yet, but it's one of the "Excellent"-brand MIJ Mosrite guitars, which are supposedly very close in spec to the originals, fret size and all.

Several people recommended the Hallmark '60 Custom, but everyone who did used words like "modern" when talking about the neck, which means bigger frets and probably a slightly chunkier neck profile (I'm usually not a stickler about this but it just felt right on the Mosrites I played). They do look great though, and I would consider one as an alternative, if I needed something that felt more Strat-like.

So are flats the way to go on these? I'll have to do some experimenting.

I fitted mine with TI flat 10s (wound G) and it sounds great and plays like a dream. The micro frets do take a little getting used to, but once you get on top of it, you'll never look back.

On Hallmark, I haven't played one but I have had dealings with Bob Shade and he's a top bloke. I note that he's planning to release a Johny Ramone MkII look-alike...hmm...
