True but will being so far off base with the opinion of devout Beatle fans like many of us who have posted here, land him a job? Hmmmm.

It's all a matter of opinion, really. We all like what we like, this survey/internet person thing/etc likes what it likes. We all have different taste from each other.

A better list would have been more inclusive..... "Cry for a Shadow", "Leave My Kitten Alone".... stuff like that

I think the list was pretty good. Of course if any one of us made a list, everyone else would argue about it. But that's what these articles are for. Something for all of us to talk about and give opinions. I have to admit though that he knows his stuff.

I also learned a lot of things reading the list. Him explaining his take on some of the lyrics made me look at a few of the songs in a new light, such as "She's Leaving Home". I never thought about the fact that the parents babied the child her whole life and when she ran away, they turned the blame on her, Saying "how could she do this to me" and "we never thought of ourselves". Also I never took the time to think about Lennon being the parents voices, and the child never speaks in the song.

So I give the guy props. It must have taken him months to write that too. I know that I would have given up 15 to 20 songs into it!

8mileshigher wrote:A very subjective ranking --- but it is an interesting concept.

I don't think I would subscribe to "Within You Without You" ranking thirty positions higher than "Guitar Gently Weeps". I guess I prefer Clapton's leslied guitar solo over the unknown Indian studio musician doing the sitar --- but that's me. :?

Another point, not to be nit-picky, but I don't think I saw separate listing for multi-released tunes such as

Let It Be Apple 45 rpm single produced by George Martin
Let It Be Original LP long version reproduced for disc by Phil Spector (with George's 1970 over dubs)
Let It Be "Naked" version
And wasn't there a Let It Be Anthology version too ?

Anyway this probably will be a topic that generates a multitude of views and responses.

I think, to be fair, the list would have to be of actual released songs of the time. If you went beyond that, you would have to go through the demos and list the variations of the songs, like the demo for Helter Skelter or I'm Looking Through You. I can agree with numbers 1 and 185, but you would almost have to say that numbers 2 - 184 are nearly tied (even number 1 and 185, depending on your perspective). In my opinion, every song off of Hard Day's Night should be ranked high (except maybe When I Get Home). It's definately a fun debate and a lot of work to compile the list, but you have to know you won't be taken too seriously.
