Well, the Ric was there in the store along with the Ovation so I only had those two to compare. The Ovation just played better all the way around, I didn't have to fight with it. I imagine if I'd bought the Ric 12 string and had someone who knows what they're doing set it up properly (including some sort of 12 saddle bridge) then I'd be very happy with it. As it was, my wife thought I was out buying a new TV. She just hasn't gotten the same enjoyment out of the Ovation for some reason.
Being predominantly a bass player, I didn't/don't really know anything about the Ric 12 string bridges. They actually have some with 12 individual saddles?
If so, then you'd think they'd make the 8 saddle version bridge for the bass.
