A guitar player I used to play with first informed me of this method...his stage name turned out to be Lance Corona, which is pretty hard to beat...

I grew up in the army, so it's a long list of streets...many of the ones 'on post' named after famous historical battles, and some rather foreign sounding, including one in Coptic...but none produce as much of a humorous result as using my current address:

"Ladies and gentlemen...please welcome...Paul Gaylord!"

...(not that there's anything wrong with that)...

Talking about names too weird to be made up: Many years ago, I thought I'd buy a horse. So among all my horse riding friends, I let it out that I was in the market.

Finally, through a farrier I found one across the state line in Missouri. There's a little rural community near Kansas City called Peculiar, MO. And I kid you not....the man who owned the horse I eventually bought had the name of Gene Looney. The sign on his mailbox read "The Looney Farm" of Peculiar, Missouri. I figured with circumstances like this, the guy had to be on the up and up. I bought the horse, and had some really fine times with her.

When we were younger, my brother and I would spend hours combing the phone book for funny names...and believe me, they are there. Two that stand out in my memory: a dentist named Charles Chew, and some guy named Skippy W. Boomershine...

Alan 11th?

Anyway, I've had lots of addresses in my life, so we could try:

Alan Washington

Alan Sawyer (my fave--as in Alan Sawyer, Private Choreographer...)

And about 45 more. We moved a lot when I wuz a sapling.

Re: funny names. When I was in the toy biz, I collected a lot of biz cards from our Chinese vendors. Two that stand out are:

I. O. Yoo

Jetson Wang

We had a neighborhood doctor whose last name was "Bonebrake". Unfortunate.

Oh damn. "Middle names" in Russian tradition are formed from father's names. No thanks.

Maybe we need a new thread on bizarre names. One that sticks in my memory was the shipping broker in Tokyo of sub-continental origin, whose name was Gyant (pronounced exactly as one would pronounce "giant") Dikshit. After introducing himself, his patter was: "please call me Gyant, don't call me Dikshit!".
