My thought after reading this - why can't they leave well enough alone! So many products I've found over the years that do what I need really well disappear or are "improved" after a year or two....

Update!

The kind people at Meguiare's have invited someone from Rickresource to come to one of their Thursday night open garage classes and test any of their products (for free) and see which one will work on a Rickenbacker!

Yeah, unfortunately, they're in the OC, and I won't be heading down thataway for a month or two.

But, my experience with Meguiar's products has, on the whole, been very good, and their tech guys are very cooperative and knowledgeable.

I do know this:

The new Scratch-X 2.0 does cause hazing.

It's undoubtdly due to the new abrasive.

There are no MSDSs available yet, on the new stuff, so I don't know the composition of the new formula.

My conclusion at the present is that the new material is more aggressive than the old (too bad!).

I may have a replacement material to suggest soon.

If one of my SoCal visits coincides with one of their clinics, I'll be taking a JG Rick with me and rolling up my sleeves.

Great Paul! The first "Open Class" is Thursday March 19th. We'll have to sign up to attend. You'll also have to be a registered member on the Meguiar's Online Forum to attend.

Back to the original topic:

Today I used Kit Scratch-Off to prep a rosewood acoustic that ships tomorrow. My usual scheme is to buff it with two grades of Menzerna (medium and extra-fine) and use Scratch-X to remove the buffing wheel hazing. Today, I used the Kit (yellow bottle). Did a terrific job; Zymol as usual--three coats--over it and the guitar's finish looked wet.

So, I do recommend the Kit brand. There's one other I'm going to use later this week on a guitar I'm completing for JDog...stay tuned.

The Kit brand is very reasonably priced, but I'll wait to hear how Jdog's guitar comes out before buying any.

I managed to purchase the "original" scratch-X from a UK retailer, however - something looks odd in the label.

It says "Scratch-X" (without 2), but it also says "new and improved"
It also says Meguiar's Holland

Does anyone know if that is the original formula or a scratch-X 2 bottle without the new label???

Sounds like Scratch-X 2, labeled more conservatively (as some USA manufacturers do in European markets). Why not try it out and see?

That first picture looks just like the bottle I bought a few months ago. Is that the old or the new formula?
