I typically tune my 5 strings EADGC so won’t help you much here. However, I’m currently selling my Fodera Emperor 5 string, but was considering holding on to it until I played a Musicmann Stingray this weekend. For me, the best feeling 5 string neck and string spacing I’ve ever played and not a bad price for a Made in the USA bass at that. And that’s compared to Rick, Lakland and Fodera 5er’s!!! I’m beginning to set the table for a new 5er if you know what I mean 8)

I know this is the Ric Forum and all, but since you posted it, Mark, I LOVE that Blue Dawn Bongo. (it IS Blue Dawn, right?...wait, is it a BFR? DAMN!)
Still looking for a white one.

As for the B string, I finally went back to 4 strings after 7 years as a 5 string player. Even though the B was nice to have, I found that when I went back to 4 strings, I hardly missed the B. I suppose that you will find an answer after you change the nut and tune BEAD. But for me, I would never trade my G for a B.

It will be interesting to hear the results of your "experiment". Be cool :)
I guess we're all different on this. I have several 4 strings and I'm constantly running out of room trying to hit those last 5 notes on the B string.

I could not do without the B OR the G. Which is why I play a 5. Not for everyone, but I know I go from the lowest to the highest depending on the song, and would miss them sooner rather than later.
