Bill played his long-scale Vox Wyman...I think that's the only long-scale bass I ever saw him play.

The only bass Keef ever used was a 1962 Fender Presicion...used notably on "Let's Spend the Night Together", "Sympathy for the Devil", "Street Fighting Man", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Happy" and The Dirty Mac's "Yer Blues"

When I saw TMM last year, their lefty Rutherford played the DN but I saw some discrepancies, so it is not an exact copy, AFAIK.

The Rickenbacker doubleneck currently at The Farm does look different to how it did in the 70s, if indeed it is actually the same one. That could account for the discrepancies.

I have seen enough photos of the original DN (readily available online) that I am surprised they got the details wrong! Unless, as you say, they used the "wrong" bass for the model.

I think it's not the bass, its the old Acoustic and Ampeg amps that got that tone for them!

Rutherford's original went through some mods at some point, so anything you see or hear will be apocryphal at best.

I've had discussions with others on the Rutherford Rick doubleneck and the bass he currently has is different than the one used with Genesis. From the photos that were taken in the storage warehouse, it was a different animal in certain respects.

The other thing I disagree with is that a '65 was used as the bass side. Due to the components used on the doubleneck the parts are late '68 to early '70's and the headstock seems too small for a '65. Also if he did chop a '65, it would have been a deluxe as the large inlays indicate. But then why the '70's style under string rear pickup assembly and die cast bridge with grover machines?

It sounds to me like the makings of an early '70's deluxe! What was wrong with the original components if this was the case? I don't think the luthier that put it together for him would have had the time to make such a fretboard from scratch considering Dick Knight only had 9 days from start to finish including the paint job before they went on tour!

I would like to see full shots of the body or headstock in closeup. The recent warehouse shot of the instrument has completely different hardware, picguard and pickups. The cats eye sound hole is not bound as is the one he toured with. I think the pics are on the "Dudepit" site. You be the judge.

It was on Dudepit i believe last year or so. There were pics at the farm or warehouse thingy showing all the gear that was in there. The double neck was awful looking with some pickguard with dome rivet pickups.

If some mad scientist could tap into my brain they would find some closeups of Mike's DN, I saw him use it a few times back in the day.

Has the Dudepit been up for the last year? I thought that was gone a LONG time ago...server and software upgrades killed me.

I remember those. I was told they were old photos, and it's currently much closer to its former state. I'll repeat myself... any of this info, including mine, is apocryphal at best.

Jason, I'm not so sure that anything has been done recently to the doubleneck. Dave 'Squids' Kerzner photographed the doubleneck twice fairly recently. The first time was about three years ago when he was helping the band with preparations for the last tour. The second time was probably about 18 months ago, when he was sampling various instruments at The Farm for a future samples collection. The doubleneck is the same in both sets of photographs. I think these photos are still on the web, but I cannot find them. I have them somewhere and will post copies here when I stumble across them.

I actually asked Squids if he could find out about the differences, at which point he seems to have decided that I was some sort of obsessive weirdo...

Jon...the differences I had observed were no white binding in the cat's eye soundhole, dome rivet pickups on the 12 side, completely different ugly pickguard. Can't remember the bass side at the moment but there was something about the headstock being different. To me it looked like a possible second instrument as I could not believe the changes were for the better! Literally it went from beautiful to "oh my God, what did you do?"
