frode - try leaving the cover on---you will find it actually facilitates playing as a handrest for either pick or fingerstyle playing. i like mine so much that i put the neck pickup cover plate on my jazz bass for a similar purpose. just could not do the "ashtray" over the rear pickup,though..... :|

Oh, Jeff, this again? I should just drive over to Chicago, set you straight about horseshoes, drink your Labatts and leave with that 4004 Cheyenne you have up for sale  ( Since I'm dreaming, may as well get the Turq 4001S while I'm there)
Hey, I was nice! As difficult as it is for me sometimes, I showed a little restraint and didn't insult the horseshoe pickup, the manufacturer of said horseshoe pickup, or those who like said horseshoe pickup :) . I merely said that the shoes are only cosmetic and get in the way of some playing styles. I wasn't trying to put my own "spin" on the whole issue. If I were, I would have said something like: "The horseshoes on a re-issue horseshoe pickup are non-functional and can be removed with no ill-effects to the tone of the pickup. Removing the useless and annoying hunks of junk however, will result in a bass that is lighter, better-looking, more tonally versatile (due to the increased string accessibility), and will also result in a cooler overall bass player."

And what's up with the threats to abduct my 4002, my 4003STurq, and my Cheyenne?

Don't make me call Brian Crisman! :|

No threats or spins at all, Jeff, I was completely tongue-in-cheek! No abductions planned, just dreams of lawful acquisitions... 8)

Jim,

I'll go with you! He has a 21 fretter that needs to be with it's twin sister!
Labatt's and Rick basses? I'm in! I smell a road-trip!
