I came across this picture some time back of Graham Nash on RSG with a 1998. It's likely that it was borrowed since I haven't seen any other pics of him with a Ric. Also note Eric Haydock's bass.

The bass looks like a Gibson Firebird. In the Hollies 30 year anniversary cd, Eric Haydock was quoted in the liner notes as saying he normally played a Fender Bass VI and that he and Jet Harris of the Shadows were the only two guys in England who had 6 string basses at the time. He also said Harris never played his. In the early days, the Hollies offered an impressive "power trio" (drums, bass, guitar) that would have challenged anybody. This is a decent example but video options are limited. (Graham Nash has a guitar here, but it isn't plugged in.)

It's a Gibson Thunderbird, the bass equivalent to the Firebird. Karl Green from Herman's Hermits also played one, as did the bass player for Freddy and the Dreamers, at times.

Interesting! Those could very well be Herman's Hermits' instruments as Karl Green was a lefty and played his righty Thunderbird upside down, and Keith Hopwood played a 1998. I believe Derek Leckenby played an ES-345 as well, but I think his was sunburst. Tony Hicks had a few 345s as well, as I recall.
