I think in the Western Conference you have to look at Detroit until they are out of the picture. Luongo is certainly capable of carrying the Canucks quite far, and I think Chicago can take Calgary out (they won all 4 games in the regular season). In the East, Boston has been the most consistent team all year (they led the conference from December onward) and has the fewest weaknesses. So with 4 good lines, solid team defence and goaltending I think they have the most potential. Unfortunately I've also been a rabid Bruins fan all of my life, so I have to acknowledge that they could go out in the first round!

And out go the Habs, without showing many signs of life. Its rare for a Bruins fan like me to see a beatdown of the Canadiens like I watched the last 4 games...it was almost not that fun to watch. Almost!

The B's are looking pretty solid.
Montreal fans, classy as ever, booing their 21 year old goalie on a night where he played pretty well, IMO.
I hope Celine Dion buys the team and sings the anthems at every home game from now on. They'll have to show'em as late games on HNIC, even though the teams are lined up at 7pm.
Does it make me a bad person to wish a career ending injury on Sean Avery?

Well... not what I had hoped for, but pretty much what I expected. When you take a team with one 20 goal scorer (injured and not playing) and take on a team with seven 20 goal scorers, all healthy and plying so much in tune with the team as the B's were, you know you are in for a tough series.
Let's not lump all us Habs fans in with the morons, now. There are a good number of boo-birds in every team's home crowd. And they usually make the most noise, because that's what they do. True fans know that Kerry Price did a fine job in the series. He made a few errors early on but was pretty solid from game 2 on. It was his team that let him down. If we could have iced a healthy squad, we may have gone to 6 games, but when the talent is pretty much all in casts, what can you do? You play some golf, or some Rickenbackers, and you plan for 2009-2010.
Now, I am free to cheer on the Canucks!!

That was a classy post Dean. That's how
true Habs fans react to the few idiots in the crowd who try to spoil a good thing for the majority. Booing the US national anthem or their young goaltender is not what real Habs fans do. They support their team to the bitter end.
Thanks throwing your support behind the Canucks. We need Canada to rally around the team as they are our only hope (in my mind) to bring the cup home.

I think the Habs are in a great position to recreate themselves for next year, much like the Bruins a couple of years ago. They have tons of cap space, some good (possibly great) young players like Price and Halak. Build from the net out, get the injured guys healthy, be careful who they resign (I think any team with Kovalev on it is going to have character issues) and go after some free agents and they'll be a much better team than they were this year. The Canucks are looking good, but I'd be careful about jumping on that bandwagon. Beating St. Louis in 4 games, despite how St. Louis finished the year, is not an indicator of a powerhouse team. Their next series will be much tougher. For me, I'm hoping the Bruins meet the Rangers and absolutely destroy them, especially Avery. He has a special place in all of our hearts, doesn't he?

Avery is a blight IMO that needs to be removed from the NHL as soon as possible Kelly.
The Canucks are always the underdog.

No one wants to admit that they have a chance but a sportswriter on MSN a few weeks back (gasp) picked them to win the cup. Amazing.
As far as being on their bandwagon. I never got off of it personally. Only when they have lost in the past do I switch allegiances to Detroit. I am hoping that I won't have to do that this year.
Thanks for the advice Aitch. Me get excited? You know better than that mate.

I am glad our team down under is doing so well. Let's hope they have a banner year too.
