It is indeed sad that, in general, in order to be successful in the public realm, one has to conform to a certain image, especially if you happen to be female...

I guess they didn't learn their lesson the first time with the tenor, Paul Potts.
Granted, he had a singing resume of sorts and wasn't quite as socially awkward as Susan Boyle, but still, they shouldn't have been so blindsided.
I absolutely agree i do watch this with tongue firmly in cheek.IMHO nobody will buy her second album(she will be offered a deal which will include a image package) she is only for the moment and this just just another run of the mill Saturday night sell out.Where are Steve Brookstein, Shayne Ward and Leon Jackson whom as of March 19, 2009, was released from the Sony BMG label.Maybe someone should point out that to be famous for 15 mins and a million pound record deal is only valid until the next round of the show you won.My signature"They let you think you're king but you're really a pawn" applies.

You gotta hear this:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/i5ETPG26ALE&co ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/i5ETPG26ALE&co ... edded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/youtube]

I could listen to her forever.

Just dreamy. You're right, Brian words just don't do it. Wow!

Scotty, It's a jungle out there. But we gotta stop sometime and smell the roses. :) Not saying you're wrong mind you - just no matter how cynical you get, you can't keep up!

WOW!!!

I've only just discovered this thread and I have to say that Susan Boyle's Britain's Got Talent clip is one of the most uplifting things I've ever seen!!

After watching it about 30 times and wiping away the tears each time...........

Cry Me A River is amazing too........ move over Streisand?

Initially I didn't think it was the same voice but the Scottish lilt in 'you....' gave it away. :D

This lady can sing! I'll tell you what, I was moved when I saw her.

Jay Leno made a joke of this and put himself singing instead of the real Susan.

This article suggests that the whole thing is a setup by Simon Cowell.

Doesn't provide any proof at all..... I doubt it but I suppose it's possible.

Kent I suspect the writer of that piece looks for boogey men under the bed at night. Yep, perhaps she is even a conspiracy theorist as well.

Simon Cowell is a very smart individual there's no doubt in my mind of that fact, but if he ever got caught setting up someone to be the winner on one of his shows the whole lot would collapse like a house of cards. The stakes are far to high for him to play games like that.

I would bet that she came as much as a surprise to him as she did to everyone else on that panel and in the audience.

I don't believe it's a hoax either, not because of Simon's position but because it would imply something disingenuous about Susan. She strikes me as a 100% genuine person who wouldn't be comfortable with presenting herself falsely. I'd put money on it.

What a breath of fresh air! I firmly believe there is no other medium on earth where someone like that(or Kieth Richards)could move such a large amount of people with their music despite their initial prejudice. Bless her heart for touching ours :D

It's nice to see that Scotland has inhabitants that aren't Numptys!

Thank you Brian for the heads up.

Here's the latest on Susan. They found a video of her singing from 25 years ago. She's pretty cute.
