Now I see what you mean. Well, on those particular high-gains the bobbin "spindle" consists of black electrician's tape wrapped around the polepieces, which hold the bobbin together.

OK, I get it. How simple! No problem to fabricate your own, I guess, the idea would be to fit the pole pieces snugly in the holes.
