I'll echo Matthew's comment!

If you're going to buy a new guitar, I'd vote for the Gretsch 6120-1959 Chet Atkins.

Whoa...where did the LTV come from? Anyway, it would be the Gretsch in my recommendation, after you've got your BA, as a grad gift!

But right now, I'm not jonesin' for another Ric. I'm addin' a little variety, if you will.
I am down to four guitars that I know will see regular use from me, no matter what they are:
Gretsch 6120-1959 Chet Atkins
Fender '52 Telecaster American Vintage
Gibson Les Paul Deluxe '73 (original!)
Gibson SG Classic
These guitars are quite different if you take them individually.
Although that Gretsch LTV sounds like the ticket to me ...
BUT If you're jonesin' for another
Ric
where is that on your list

Jake -- did you ever get an appraisal of the damages from one of our RRF surgeons on that broken 1993 ??
Not that I'm one to give young people a whole lot of worthwhile advice,

but in my view, the undertaking of the restoration project and the perseverance, patience and wherewithal it would bring out in you, would be a very meaningful and important life-lesson. And you will have a thousand percent greater appreciation of the instrument (and a whole lot of other important things in life) once you painstakingly restore it --- then just running out and buying another guitar off the shelf.
Even if you don't do any of the technical work yourself, the oversight of the project yourself, in the capable hands of one of the RRF restoration experts, and your day-to-day involvement, will foster a great appreciation of the invaluable things you can (and will) be thankful for over your lifetime. And the result will be one very special instrument, that you can treasure for a lifetime because you rescued it from near-death. Some people will spend tens of thousands of dollars in university tuitions to gain a life-experience like this..... and you can't get that at Guitar Center.
Sorry if I'm getting overly philosophical....

Rich F.

Wait a minute
Stop The bus...
Call me crazy... but if you have one of these to resurrect:

That's where I'd put my money. An investment in the past and the future. What a
cool guitar
But I do ... understand ...
new Guitar
Acquistion
Syndrome
a 1993/12 - nice

A comment, and a question:
1. Before you plop down money for any Tele, find and play a G&L ASAT Special.
2. What kind of amp do you have?

Before anyone says anymore...
I LISTENED TO MATT BOWLING and decided to resurrect my broken 1997 into a 1993 12-string.
By the way, Chuck, I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb '65 reissue.
