I've discovered you cannot even get the thing listed with the words "cashier's check" and "money order" in your description - even misspellings will be caught. I've had to use the words "any other form of payment" when describing my terms.

What's a matter of opinion is whether the security and service is actually adequate. IMO eBay has unnecessarily made the procedure for complaining about a particular listing (e.g. a scam) extremely difficult due to the numerous inadequate pull-down menus for that procedure. Also, even now, eBay has done nothing to stop the use of images in scams that contain the infamous "Contact me at whatever111-at-gmail.com before bidding or you bid will be cancel" [Engrish added for emphasis - and reality ]. These ads don't contain any real text usually, so there should be an easy way to flag these for review and subsequent deletion. However, that would require interaction by a real person, not a computer, so it's not done; IMO, this is not adequate.

Edit: I just read some of the other comments. I have not sold anything on eBay lately, and if/when I do, it looks like I will be going to court. By Federal law, eBay CANNOT prohibit the use of cash in ANY local in-person transaction. Although the government has removed the 'legal tender' statement on the newer style currency, it still is, by law, 'legal tender for all debts, public and private" [emphasis added].

You are charged a fee to use Paypal, after being charged a fee by ebay for selling an item. You are then charged another fee to withdraw your money from your Paypal account, (under$150.00). Ebay Australia tried to make Paypal the ONLY form of payment allowed, but the Government watchdogs actually acted surprisingly swiftly on it. I think it's still going up before a tribunal hearing.

ebay and paypal = unethical monopoly. I no longer use it. I'd rather pay any premium to the little guy and screw the corporate greed.

I'm never happy with PP fees either. I don't begrudge anyone making a profit, but their monopoly tied in with eBay isn't cool. Props to any country that stamps on this, and sticks to it.
