Geddy has been using a lower register for at least 20 years. He has said that he can't do the old stuff for an entire show anymore. Rush reduced the old stuff to a medley then dropped it altogether for a time. Some of the older songs came back recently, notably on the Brazil tour.

I remember when he could belt out 2112 and a side of Hemispheres in one show. Those were the days.......
