The way the TRC surpassed the HStock edge also looked suspicious, but that might as well only mean that the TRC is not original, which judging from the OBVIOUSLY not original matching pickguard, does not sound crazy.

So it seems it is an original one after all... Thanks! It helps me sharpen my instinct!

It looks good to me too and he actually does say in the auction that the TRC isn't original.

I've never seen a set-neck vintage copy - all the common ones were through-neck or bolt-on. Greco did a "McCartney Replica" which might have been set, but I've only ever seen a blurry pic so it wasn't possible to tell the construction. Judging from the pic of the base of the neck, this has twin rods & hardly any copies did.

FWIW I'd say it's a real one.

What struck me about the 'carcass' was the colour and grain of the fingerboard, and the quality and texture of the triangle markers. They look rather more genuine than any of the 400x copies I've seen.

I'd be leary on this one. It may just be my monitor, but if you look closely at the "pointy area" of the TRC, it almost looks photo-shopped, or super-imposed on the headstock.

Im not calling it a fake, but that area really looks suspicious to me.

Sure looks like an early guitar (possibly Capri) TRC--non-photoshopped--on a short headstock...if so, this is a valuable part.

buy it ,sell the trc for $800 and throw away the body!

Well hi Becky! We're good, band's still working hard, playing a couple of Edinburgh gigs this month & trying to find time to finish our concept album - The Fifth Sun. Have you found yourself a band to play your 4003 in yet?

It's dot markers on this particular neck but you're right about the copies - none of them use the same or similar inlay material as RIC, the old MIJ ones usually have pearloid plastic or real MOP. The early Ibanez & Grecos (built at the same factory) have quite spectacular full-width glitter - that's real sparkly glitter, not crushed pearl like Rickenbacker. I love 'em but I'm a sad JapCrap anorak anyway...
