Jeff, you will need to unwind the pickup while it is out of the bass, out of the chrome cover and bass plate, and the outside black plastic tape taken off and saved. It will take a LOT of winding removal to get from 12k to 8.4k. Hundreds. What I do is unwind a hundred, take a reading, see how much change there was, then rough figure how many I have to go. When I am about 50 still to go, I start measuring. Remember the wire has a coating you'll need to carefully scrape off to get a reading. Measure from the bared wire to the other wire on the pickup coil. Also pay attention to how the lead-out wire was attached to the copper windings as you will need to again put it back when you reach 8.4k.wings012345 wrote:So john, I may try un-winding. How much wire do you think I need to un-wind to get down to say 8.4. if I find the pickup is around 12 k or so. We talking like 10 unwinds. More, less. just looking for a ballpark to start with Also, with the ohm meter, I familar with them, but does the pickup need to be reconnected to the pots to get a reading or do you just connect the meter to the wire and ground on the pickup out of the guitar to get a reading?
Thanks
