Reminds me of the time shortly after my local music retailer was taken over by GC...
...I was having a conversation with one of their employees about my 4001C64S, since he had seen me using it at a gig. The manager comes walking by, and overhearing that the conversation was about a Rick bass, offers a completely unnecessary comment along the lines of, "Oh, you own a Rickenbacker? My condolences!"
Last time I ever walked into that store without it being an absolute emergency.

That's funny, Al. My experience was a bit different, though no better. Guitar Ctr took over our local place right about the time I sent my '68 4001 to Dale. I took it in there to see if they had any discarded cartons to pack my case in for the shipping. When I opened up my case when they logged the instrument as a carry in some of the out of towners here for the transition were on me like stink on ****. Two of them kept asking if I'd sell it. One of them actually looked insulted when I laughed at his $500 offer. He said he only offered that because it needed repair. I told him to go p*** upwind elsewhere because the horseshoe was worth more than that by itself. Unfortunately, the step DOWN to Guitar Center was NOT that much a step down from what they replaced.

I know we've had our experiences at GC, but it's probably better in the nature of this forum not to keep running the thread as one to bash GC.

OK, the guys at the GC a couple of blocks from my office are really nice. They roll out the Zimmer frame every time I turn up and help me to the kerb with my purchases.
I am sure to always tip those nice young fellows and compliment them on their tattoos and nose jewelry.

Haha.
To be fair, if it weren't for one of the GC guys at another store I wouldn't have my 4003S/5 right now. His brother was selling it and for the last year or so, everytime I've gone in I've made a comment like, "if you don't have a Ric I'm not interested."
I guess he figured it was true and helped me find his brother's bass.
