Nice color combination for Bastille Day, too which is July 14.

Vive le difference! If I can obtain a nice-sized French flag -- yes, we can do a photo shoot. Preferably on native soil -- French Riviera or the like.

Memorial Day kicks my rear end every year. At least it rained all day here...makes it a little easier somehow.

A toast: to all the "Billy Pilgrim"s in the world, whatever 'side' they're on...

Dane, I always kick the day off--so it can't kick me, as I'm put into the proper frame of mind--with David Lindley's "National Holiday", which he sings in Jimmy Stewart's voice. Then I go out and catch a parade somewhere.

Says it all, without their sacrifice, life would certainly be much worse.

I would like to extend these sentiments to all who gave their lives in defense of their countries around the world. Please observe a moment of thanks in between flipping the burgers on the grill :D
+1 - I really appreciate the sacrifice.

Thanks, Dr. JJ...that sounds like a great way to do it. Now to go with that I just need a recording of the young Gregory Peck reading the Selective Service System's Order To Report For Induction: "The President of The United States, GREETING: You are hereby ordered for induction into the Armed Forces of the United States..."

Yup, I saw a lot of parades as a kid...and got to participate a little with some night-before additions to my regular household chores. I don't know if Victory really smells like Napalm, but for me, Memorial Day smells like Kiwi Boot Polish and Brasso...

Speaking of parades:

I hate to be a nit picker, but when the platoon makes their entrance (referencing Sly Stone's 'Higher' with the 'boom's on the '1' beat), they're all 'out-of-step'...they should be on the left foot with the downbeat. Maybe a small thing, but anyone who's actually 'marched' knows how wrong that would feel...

Gee, if the Army were really like this, I mighta joined...but....naaahhh....
