thanks everyone! I posted this again in the technical forums but I wanted to make sure that johnallg and doctorwho are thanks for helping me. so...THANKS! lol

I have another question though that I also posed to paul but I wanted to get your insights as well. Now I need to tackle gouges and chips. even though I got a great black shine to it, there are still some grooves left behind by the more severe scratches that are too deep to just rub out. I dont know if you can see the 6 small chips on the binding in one of the pictures but they are on the horn side of the base near the bridge and bridge pickup. what would be the best way of going about fixing the chips and the grooves/gouges?

And binding chips offer a different challenge - I will defer to Paul on this as I have seen no posts here on the topic. Watch the other thread for his reply. Hopefully there is an acceptable solution short of a rebind/refin.

Yep, I concur with John ... let Paul, who is the true master of restoration, be your guide for these more complicated repairs.

well the diapers cost 10 bucks at a local mom and pop store (HA! I beat you Wal-mart!) the sratch doctor cost 10 bucks, the Zymols 15 dollars, the swirl-x was 9 and the Meguiars professional cleaning compund cost 16 dollars for a quart.

If your instrument is not all scratched up, but just needs a general cleaning and polish, then all you'd need is the diapers, the Swirl-X, and the Zymol.
