Big difference between "need" and "want"...

I did not know what to expect when I first picked up a 4004, but I tend to not like really modern type instruments. I was similarly impressed! Thanks for the review.

Thanks Joshua and CJ,

I suppose the easy way out is to buy one of each: if only I could afford two.

I think if I had a shot at a 4004 Cii in MG I might go for it. I'd really like one with "southward" pickups if I could, in a way, but gosh... the current configuration sounds really good in spite of what I thought was awkward pickup placement.

It's my understanding that someone already has a reserve on this bass; whoever you are you are going to be quite happy, methinks.

Cassius, the FireGlo 4004Cii at Wildwood is available again, and you're right - someone is going to love that bass. I heard from Ben at RIC, and he assured me that my new MapleGlo will be here soon, so I had Wildwood relist the FG for sale. For those interested in a 4004, the Music Zoo has some great Ciis and Laredos in stock. I may have to get a second Cii in transparent blue or green....

good write-up,josh! i can't imagine 2 LESS similar sounding rick basses than my 2,but they are both rather "off the norm",and the more one fiddles with amp controls, etc, the more you can make them sound alike. i've always preferred the less deluxe versions of things,(prefer an unbound dot neck jazz bass to one with blocks and binding any day). it's been raining more than usual in both memphis and brookings,so i think it's a national trend..... i think i have the cii that you want, but i am hoping not to have to sell it anytime soon!

Just thought I'd let you all know that this bass now has a new owner.

ME !!!!!!!! :D

Yep, I've joined the bass club. Now all I have to do is learn how to play it. It's taken me twenty years to achieve mediocrity on guitar, hopefully I can get to that level a little quicker on bass.

It's gonna be a long three months until I get to New York, but in the meantime John Biscuti will do the babysitting duties.

Thanks John :D

Oh, cool, Shane! I hope you love it. :)

Hey, it's got fewer strings - it's got to be easier to master, right?

(I'll be over here, keeping my head down now   )

You got a great deal on that bass, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Bass is a lot of fun, it's a different way of thinking than guitar, but I'm sure you'll get into it. And, if all else fails, you can always sell it to me. I always need another bass (though right now, I think I need a fretless)... :D

I keep trying to convince myself that someday I'll actually be able to play something on those skinny stringed beasties...nails on a chalkboard?
