I like how the seller calls it the "only modification". As if we wouldn't have noticed without him calling it to our attention.

Common Sense Alert! If you think you may ever want/have to sell a guitar, don't do this.

True. IMO, if you were going to mod out a Rickenbacker i.e. use parts from other guitars, the 650 would be the one to work with. I can deal with that. But the nature of the modifications is what gets me, it's just a stock Telecaster setup with an ugly, thoughtless pickguard covering up more than it needs to. And it's not so bad compared to the other butchered Rick's you see on ebay from time to time - for instance the vintage 360 body and neck that keeps popping up, routed for Gibson humbuckers.

I would buy it just to make sure it was never seen again. This is the equivalent of putting a whale tail on a Dodge Neon.

Oh, it isn't that bad. A couple of HB-1s and four little screw holes to plug. $350 and still no bids. Someone is probably going to get a pretty nice RIC for next to nothing. Of course, there's no way of telling what's under that Mother-of-Toiletseat thingy.

I wouldn't have any problem with this guitar if the modder had not just lazily slapped that big rectangle of pickguard on for mounting the pickups. Even though the pickups are wider than the neck piece (slightly so, it appears), it could have been done tastefully without such a wide guard. I just shake my head...

People on the board always raise hell when an extensively modified guitar pops up. It is what it is......in this case it's a dirt cheap 650. Heck, if you get it for the opening bid, that's a Rickenbacker for about the same price as a Squier strat, right? It's not like the guy is asking for more money for his modifications, nor is it even remotely a vintage, rare or super desireable Ric (to most).

There is slight routing, no doubt.....but a Ric humbucker would possibly cover that up. Big deal, ya know? Hardly bad enough to warrant half the comments about it, but then again.....that happens every time a "less-than-perfect" Ric comes along.

Collin, I agree. After the initial esthetic shock wears off, one can see that this is a bargain at that price. It wouldn't be too hard to give this guitar some integrity again. The only question for me is how bad are the routs (?). Have the original parts been retained?

Solution: 450 style pickguard.
