Re: The Gates Of Delirium
That was OUTSTANDING! I spent MANY hours with this live version as a teenager, so I'm quite familiar with the parts as played by Squire. You nail the stuff with a level of accuracy and detail that is uncanny! Loved it man, "well done" is an understatement.
Re: The Gates Of Delirium
Man,
I WISH we could get Mr. Squire's work in notation & tab form.
These lines are HISTORIC and they will live on forever..
I have a lousy ear, and would pay most any price to find ALL or MOST of his catalog in
one nice neat package.

Into "The Battle"!!

(notes from YT)
Here I play the second section of The Gates of Delirium, also known as "the battle" suite. Most appropriate, I would say... I managed to play it in two nights of recording, having to stop after on the first night I had run out of fingers... they still hurt
)
I must say also that the studying of this particular bassline (including the first section) has been a complete treasure for me. Taking on what seems to be a beautiful musical chaos and listening it in small sections. You will find very particular aspects of Chris' playing - regarding note choices, rhythm patterns, fingering solutions.... I have learned a lot from the bass guitar itself after studying this bassline, with the help of the available videos, especially the QPR show from 1975, which I adopted as a visual reference for left and right hand positions, which is most probably the closest footage tho what might have happened during the Relayer and Yesshows years.
The speed at which this version was played is really on my technical limits... more so after some weeks of holiday without playing and letting my left hand finger tips go softer. Hope you enjoy the music and thanks for watching!

Re: The Gates Of Delirium
Wow. Miguel, that was nothing short of fantastic.

I was wondering the VERY SAME THING!
If my life depended on it, I couldn't do it.
Thanks also for the NICE bright lighting Miguel! Makes it much easier for these old eyes to see what you are doing!
I've GOT to get these vids saved to a disk so I can learn from them.
MANY thanks for showing me how to bring my bass hero closer to my bass playing!

Re: The Gates Of Delirium
Hello all good people!
Thank you very much for your kind comments so far. It's a great satisfaction to read such comments because my main purpose is exactly to "underline" Chris' work!
Maybe in the next week or so I'll find the time to finish the 3rd part.
Now that I finished the "battle", after 2 days... I got my calouses back

Miguel, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor.... WOW. This movement really shows off the genius of Chris' bass parts, but also your abilities to pull them from the mix and master them. WOW
I have FUMBLED with a few short parts of this movement, but I see my efforts were stunted to say the very least! Hah! More like embarrassing!
You say your fingers hurt, imagine playing the whole GOD piece through!
Kudos, sir!

Re: The Gates Of Delirium
Sorry, Miguel, I'm late posting on this, but Wow! I am amazed at your attention to detail in bringing these parts to life.
You are going to tab them all out for us, correct?
Seriously, this is excellent work and I plan to do all I can to make sure that Chris is aware of your talents. Someday, possibly, if it can be worked out, perhaps this could take on an "official" life of its own and help get the process started to correctly document Yes bass music once and for all.

+1!! But how do you tab the pacing of the notes, the "feel" of the part?!just_bassics wrote:You are going to tab them all out for us, correct?

Jim, that is something I would really like to see happen. He's not getting any younger, and with the recent leg scare.... I hope this could come to pass.
Re: The Gates Of Delirium
It's certainly something I would pay good bucks for. I know that once upon a time there were a few music pieces on the old Squire site. Wish I had grabbed those then. But I'd love to see the music preserved with some sort of official blessing from Mr. Squire. In this day and age to loose music like this would be a crime.johnallg wrote:+1!! Re: The Gates Of Delirium
Hello Jim, John and Brian.
Thank you very much, as always, for your comments and support.
I totally agree that Chris' fans would be very happy in finding something where his basslines would be in focus, whether it's an audio, video and/or document format and that's the main reason I starting to do my clips. For now I will just stick to the videos because it's what I like to do best and what I am able to do best on my free time. (I did transcriptions in the past, let's see what else can be done in the future)
Brian, I still have the files that were on Chris' old site. I can send it to you (and to anyone interested).
Greetings to all!
Miguel
