Interesting. I never thought of them as rockers at all. I thought they were....oh......how shall I say?....to pop to be country, and too Bakersfield California to be rockers. And when they abandoned that, (Hotel California/One of These Nights) I quit listening.

I meant when tried to rock, as with the song "James Dean" and a few others, they didn't quite rock.

I'm not an Eagles fan but I do dig some of Joe Walsh's stuff.

I've always liked them. There early stuff is great fun to strum along on an acoustic--good beach music!

+1, they became more like the Bee Gees or something.

And the funny thing is, isn't that about the time Timothy B. Schmidt joined them? (Hotel California era) Sure did like his work in Poco better.

Well they have done, and even worse!

My rock n roll formative years (teens) were in the late 70s and early 80s, and I despised most of the over-played AOR that was the staple of American radio at the time, including the Eagles. But now, although I'm still not really a fan, I appreciate their music more, for the arrangements, the musicality, and the playing talent. I was on the road the past weekend, scanning the channels, and I even stopped and listened to all of "New Kid in Town", which I would rank as one of my least-favorites (mellow/soft rock is not my thing). And I enjoyed listening to it!

And I whole-heartedly believe the adage that at any given moment in time, some radio station someone on Earth is playing Hotel California! I still could die happy without ever hearing that song again, just because of the over-exposure.

I've always liked the Eagles, especially the Desperado album. I got to see them in 1976, shortly after Joe Walsh joined, but before Hotel California was out. They played older Eagles tunes, and some of Joe's James Gang and solo stuff.

With regard to the Eagles, I've been known to quote The Dude from time to time...especially when I've heard "Hotel California" for the third or fourth time in a single day as it's in constant rotation on the "classic" rock stations here.

I like 'em. It's not really my style but I recognize the terrific musicality of their work, together and separately. I'd have no problem to cover one or two of their songs, done my way.
