The rest of the questions are to come! I ought to be looking for a bridge-spacing of about 2", right?

Mine measures at just shy of 1-7/8". The slots are centered in the saddles.

And that's it rewired!
The individual pickup volumes still function the same (though I removed some pointless caps) but the neck tone is now a master volume for the whole guitar and the bridge tone is a master tone with a 0.018µF blue molded Fender cap from an old BF amp. It's pretty much the Gretsch tone-pot wiring setup (my main guitar is a '54 Gretsch Duo Jet) with the master controls wired like a Tele with a funky cap.
Much better this way, I use the controls on my guitar a lot to control the sound (don't own any overdrives despite being in an alt. rock band) so this is a much better fit for what I want to do with the guitar.

Yeah sure, I'll get some at some point over the next few days. Kind of embarrassed about how bad the Schaller bridge looks though....

I need a strap button too, any idea where I could find one?

Would RIC Boutique have them? :) Just go to the RIC corporate website and look for the boutique :) There you also can shop the standard bridge and lots of other replacement parts too, except for the "R" tailpiece and TRC which are controlled.

If you don't see what you want there you can always post here in the "Rickenbacker Wanted" forum. If I had an extra I would just send it to you. :)
