Follow up. I am happy to report that everything is back to normal now! I loosened the truss rod nuts, took a metal dowel and tapped the truss rods at the headstock, each one popped loose and I was able to easily drive them back in at the heal end. My Ric now looks just like the one in the link in my first post. Thanks again for all of the help, everyone. I am looking forward to reading through the forum and learning more about Rics. Now if I can just find an original G tuner, two plastic grommets, and one plastic tuner spacer...

Good advice Ted, I soemtimes think people are a little too gentle with them, afraid of them. I like the early 4003's, they are just like 4001's with the truss rods reversed, same shape neck, headstock etc.
