Thick as a Brick is probably by fav Tull album. Got into them as a wee lad when my brother was spinning that and Aqualung. He taught me Mother Goose on my first guitar - and Epi acoustic which I still have. 8)

I'll take JPJ's playing and Zep's material anyday.

Sabbath were always travelling second class musically to my ears.

Ramble On! :D

I would think of it as more of an Olde English Folk influence kind of like Tull developed after a while. They had a lot of wierd acoustic English folkie stuff which was not blues based at all which kind of lost me.
I meant to mention folk earlier but was in a rush to get out the door.

Zeppelin has a lot of influences. Blues and folk are just the most common.

It is I Jeffrey, Rictified, I would check out the first two, "This Was" and "Stand Up" especially This Was, they are like listening to a different band, Anderson's voice was mixed down and they were much more jazz and blues oriented, when I realized the direction they were going in I was very disappointed. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised, it's nothing like the later theatrical stuff, they were just a great rocking jazz-blues band, did a great version of cat's Squirrel.

I think as well-trained musicians Zep wins hands down. But I have a much easier time sticking a Sabbath record on the player and letting it finish, and then listening another whole time! Zeppelin aren't as "musical" for me, even though they're obviously so good... I especially admire Zep's rhythm section.

Other than some of their later albums, I'm of the camp that can listen to albums from both bands front to back and over again. :D
