Excellent Kira.

Glad that you're heading that direction.

I can totally relate to the "more about the habit" part. I'm sure that at this point, you've licked the physical aspect but the psychological part is the hardest part.

I have faith that you can do it. :D

Good luck on your effort, Scott.

I've tried dropping the habit countless times, but failed to have the willpower. And for those who have never smoked, it takes a lot of willpower.
Here's hoping you do.

Here's the worst reason in the world to resume, once you've quit: When I moved to Europe (where people were even allowed to do it in supermarkets), I took up the habit again because when I don't partake I'm extremely intolerant of second-hand smoke. I figured I'd rather be a smoker than a fascist. D'oh! I got hooked again for 14 years.

Don't know why, Kira, but your intolerant remark about second-hand smoke (I can't stand it either, which on the surface seems contrary) reminds me of an old Honeymooners rerun on TV.
Norton asked Ralph, "Do you mind if I smoke?"
Ralph, " I don't care if you burn." :D

A lot of ex-smokers are the worst anti-smokers ever.

I think they must have had a hard time quitting and to fight off the urges, they fight those that still smoke. ;)

Seriously, though. I never had an issue when I quit the last time. I just found a lame excuse to start back up. In a moment of weakness, I wasted a lot of money. I could have 10 Rics right now for the cost of that weakness.

Anyway, checking in with an update. I haven't had any today and though there were times (like right now) that I really wanted one, I managed to get through the day without any major issues.

The times I do want one--even though the intensity is high for wanting one--it quickly subsides. I think that is due mainly to decreasing my nicotine intake for the last 5 days, almost down to nothing. At this point, I'm still going on what was put into my system on Saturday and Sunday, which was almost nothing in comparison to my typical day.

We'll see how tomorrow goes but here's hoping it's downhill from this point forward.

Thanks Stan.

It does take willpower.

As sad as it may sound, it took me four months to quit years ago. I'd wake up, make it halfway through the day and then fail.

I liken it to sitting in a chair in the dark and telling yourself that you're gonna get up and turn on the light. We know the mechanics of getting up and turning on the light, but the chair is so cozy and comfortable.

The problem is that you're still in the dark. Eventually, you'll either get up and turn on the light or you'll convince yourself that the dark is fine and dandy.

So, after four months, I got fed up and finally got out of my chair and turned on the light.

This time I was ready for what it took having gone through it already.

This time I won't fall for some lame excuse to start again.

Age brings wisdom and I aim to use that wisdom. :)

I smoke and still own 21 basses, 5 which are Ricks, But actually now that im going to be 50 a week from this Saturday, been considering the fact that its time for a lifestyle change, and quitting smokeing is one of my thoughts, whether I do or dont remains to be seen and only time will tell and there are still other basses I would love to add to my arsenal, so with the money I would save, I could buy double the amount of bases in a year that I buy now.

I remember how it was when I was not smoking, to get hit in the face by second-hand smoke. It had not to do with fighting the urge, of which I had not the slightest. I just found it physically painful in my sinuses, sharp like ammonia, and they would be enflamed and blocked up for a while afterward. It made me feel homicidal. I hope that with the tightened regulations and raised awareness of the bad effects over the last ten years, that that aspect will be lessened for me this time. Also I'm certainly spending less time in public than I was fifteen years ago, so I can exercise greater control over my daily environment.

A light ex-smoker (5-10 ciggies a day from teen to mid-twenties) here.
Best of luck quitting.

In my small office we have clients walk in. I sit far away from the front office. If a smoker walks in, I can smell them.

Kira, that's wonderful.

I haven't had one since Sunday night.

I have had some cravings but I just shoo them away and move on.

Those will die soon enough. :)

Has it been difficult?

Nah, it's just the same as you report. I've been whittling down the nic level for a couple of weeks now so it's just a matter of will power at this point, of which I have plenty.
