Yeah, I always wondered about those finger rests on the other side of the strings and none where most bass players would use them... This is my second bass, my first (and only for many years) is a JB style and I always used the bass pup to rest my thumb, needless to say, I can't in my Rick (besides, I don't want to take the pup cover out) so I modified my whole playing position, and I started using the edge of the pickguard to rest the thumb. I guess I will start thinking about the customized finger rest using the already existent pickguard screw holes. What bugs me is that I want to keep it original! I guess I'll try taking out the pup cover at some point and see how it goes... I don't know... I'm whining and hessitating too much about this! :oops:

You could always get a pick guard from PickGuardian (http://www.pickguardian.com/pickguardia ... asses.html) - and they could locate a thumb rest wherever you wanted it.
