Man, I love some Gibson stuff, but the last few years of models have really given me the feeling that they will do / try anything to make a buck.

Hate it.

"Hey guys!! We can use all this scrap wood and sell a guitar made of plywood for a truck load of money! Alright!! "

Last time I checked, 30 sheets of laminated ply was hardly considered a tone wood, regardless of their candy-coated colors.

(....I should check one out in person, maybe they look better in person or something..)

I would never buy a dinky, fragile little SG -but I think this finish is great! Even if it reminds me of certain walking sticks or knife handles.

Not sure about the 'zoot suit' name though. Clown suit maybe...

This instrument belongs in my "Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should" category... ick....still hating it.

You've got to give Gibson credit. Not only have they figured out a way to charge over a thousand dollars for a plywood guitar, they have actually found a way to make it the selling point.

I imagine this would attract a lot of attention at a gig though.

I will tell you that the Guitar Center guys were all making fun of them, but I don't put much weight on that, they don't like my Rickenbackers either
Did you show 'em your Light Show???

I don't like it. I like SGs (Standards and P90-'quipped alike), but the best colors on the SG have been cherry red and polaris white.

When I heard it called "Zoot Suit", I was thinking about the suits the mods would wear throughout London in '64-'65.

Actually, the mods traditionally wore continental suits, often referred to as "italian cut" or "carnaby suits".
Zoot suits usually had shoulder pads, wide lapels, and pleated pants....all things, traditionally, most un-mod/modern.

I love being in the minority I suppose.............judging by everyone's reactions this series of guitars will not last long and will end up being a collectors item. I am seriously considering buying one for that reason. I just dont know which colour yet. I am leaning towards the black and white one.

To be honest I think they are cool..............but then you had to live through the 60's to appreciate how retro looking these guitars really are. :D

Here's a link to MF. They show all the colours available.

Collectors item? Like the Corvus, M-3, or the Goth line? Hmmmmmm..........

While this definitely a love/hate only deal, I don't see the resale ever matching the purchase price. If these were a numbered series made from solid wood, that would be a different story. I could be mistaken, but it would be a shame to be buried with that thing, especially at that price.

 Mike.

Call me crazy then. I actually like the look of them. I would love to try one out. I built a strat a few years back and I used a laminated body that I bought off ebay. I was going to use it as a beater guitar for jams etc. Strangely enough, it is a fantatstic sounding guitar. It's very resonant. I bet these sound good too as they basically use the same construction technique.

Re: Ashley Tisdale band has one....That statement in itself made me laugh. A ringing endorsement from a serious musician. :)
It makes me ill that Ashley Tisdale (who?) has a BAND. I know, I'm old...but I remember when you had to play clubs and write songs and be good on your instrument and stuff....OK, soapbox put away.
