Update on the Taylor 9 string: U.S. Suggested Retail Price – $4998.00. Oh boy, I guess they'll be selling lots of these...

As I recall the Alvarez had a G octave string and B and E unison strings. This Taylor has a unison at B and octaves at D and G.

I don't recall the details, just that it had 9 strings. The lead guitarist in The Karma Kings used to have one.

I'll take a pass. For that kind of bread, I can think of some other guitars I'd rather have.

Check out some of The Byrdbrains vids on youtube. Iain has a custom-made 9-string. Don't know why he doesn't just use a Ric 12, but he says he likes that guitar.

Although it's an interesting discussion, and one I'd like to see continue, its relationship to the Byrds is tangential at best, in my honest opinion. So I think I'm going to attempt to move it to The Others.
(Which will give me time to figure out how to work the software on that spiffy new camera. )

Oh yeah, give it to Mikey, he likes anything :D

I'm intrigued....I have a Taylor A/E, a 324 CE Koa...one of the nicest guitars I've played. I guess my only concern would be the uneven strain on the neck on the high E side?

Todd, that's the best one of all, three snips and voila! But - where to snip?
Big Joe Williams had his own unique system (It never really caught on though). Try this on your favorite 6 string...

I converted a banjo to nine strings back about 1971 and its headstock looked pretty similar.
