Congratulations, Mike.
I think you will get over the chip pretty soon.
Talk about UPS damage, they poked a big hole in the case of my '72 near the neck and upper horn, by the 9th fret. It was close!

That doesn't look like a chip in the binding, it looks like the clear over it has been damaged. I'd be really surprised if that happened in the case ( unless you have the chip of clear that came off ). What would cause that to happen in the case? Looks like it would have happened before it was shipped to you. I could be wrong , of course.

Hi Bruce , I Did find the Little Chip of Clear in the Case right Where it Was Chipped. It Looked to me like it Moved in the CASE,or took a Hit in Transport. These Cases Stink. Mike Parks just Exchanged my Case on My 4003 BG. The New Case he Send me Still is Not right. I can't Believe I'm the Only one out here With Case Troubles. The inside is Weak Molded plastic.
I guess the Bass could have been Bubble wrapped To Protect it Better.

Mike,
I'm a lefty so all my cases are vintage type. I thought the standard cases were well thought of, though. You're lucky that whatever happened only chipped the clear off of the binding and not the binding itself. It's been discussed here before, I think one of the cyanoacrylates will work to seal the edges of the chip so that it doesn't spread. Someone else will probably chime in now.

Try to look at the positive side, now you dont have to live in horror about putting that first ding it her...no really, you have my sympathy, but it could have been much worse. Its a very imperfect world we live in.

Wow, I didn't think I liked desert gold very much, but on that bass it is beautiful! Sorry to hear about the chip, though.... that can be hard to take when you paid good money for a "mint" instrument!

Yeah but its not a big deal, as soon as you take it to a gig/rehearsal it WILL get chipped a bit even if you are super careful!
They just kind of .....appear

Michael,
If you're up for it, you can fill the chip with medium viscosity CA (superglue) available at any hobby shop. Clean the area with naptha or alcohol first. Try to apply the CA in even layers to build it up to the original surface level, then wetsand with 600, then 1000, then 1500. Finally, polish with 3M finesse-it and the chip will be nearly invisible. If you wish to try this, do it now before gunk gets built up in the edges of the chip!
