Is the story that goes with the bass true? An american company making copies? Illegally?
I don't know Werner, perhaps when if we can hear from Jon in the UK, he's our specialist on such matters....sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Here in Italy there are a lot of Fackes, so...
I'm writing a article for a magazine to guide buyers to find clones.

Mario, you do the exact opposite of me.I wrote up a whole web page to discourage people from buying fakes and help them from getting fooled into thinking they bought a real one that was actually a fake.

Please do not glorify the fakers here. There are other forums available on the internet for that.

I saw a 2005 4004Cii 4-2-5 conversion in Translucent red go for less than $1100 on eBay in the last 2 months. I'd imagine you could find some other real Rics going in that price range, what kind of sucker would pay $1100 for a Univox with a cracked neck.

a buddy of mine's girlfriend got drunk saturday nite, went berzerk, and picked up his rickenfaker bass and proceeded to smash his whole apartment including two televisions. the neck has a long crack from 9th fret to truss adjust channel, the control cavity area broke off destroying the pickguard and each control has a piece of its own pickguard ! what is sadning is this bass was fireglo, dual trussrod neckthru, checker binding (which i'd never seen before on a faker)had a neck to rival my '70 rick, and had rick pickups in it that i installed for him . it sounded great ! this bass was so close to the real thing you have no idea. the original pickups were cheap **** as they all are. so, i get my pickups back and my 4001s style knobs. mr. hall has one less faker to worry about...and to boot, the guy paid $50.00 for it. his girlfriend apologized for her deed, and will be buying him a new 2009 fireglo 4003 at a local rick dealer. i said"dude, what about the apartment and the tv's...he replied "screw the other stuff, i'm gettin' a real rick !"

i remember seeing a natural rickenfaker by gretch at a mall music store in moncton back in the mid '70's. the headstock looked like a wal bass side by side headstock. bolton neck and big chrome parts. anyone else ever see one ?
