On the left, my 2007 4003FL AFG, on the right, Jdog's 92 4003FL FG....the pics didn't do the finish justice...BOTH had killer necks....I now own the 92.

I fell in love with it a few years ago when Jdog came over for our first mini-confluence. Its been used in a lot of bars and HAS aged naturally and the binding looks almost as ambered as the AFG!

No, just paid for it. I suppose it's a bit premature posting about it, I suppose it could get lost or damaged in transit   :(  I sure hope not! But I figured that since I bought it from a reputable dealer, I had pictures (the dealer took those) and it's and all paid for, it is, in fact, mine, and I should let folks know about it. Anyway, I'll put a few more pictures up when it arrives...

Oh, and just to add: you generally get much more growl sliding up into a note than you do sliding down into it. Probably related to the leverage one can generate in either direction.

Oh, and another: jack up the low mids a bit. Fretless is designed to be a more mid-range beast. Sure, you can hit the lows too, but...
Thanks for all the tips! :D I can understand what you're saying on hitting the right notes properly instead of sliding into them. This relates perfectly to trombone (of course, naturally, I play Bass trombone  , really!), it sounds horrible if you slide into every note. It can be used to great effect in the right circumstances, but just sliding around to everything doesn't work.

As for mids, it sounds like it'll be fun to play with the tone, I already use a fairly "middy" tone with my other RIcks. I've heard the range of different tones you can produce with a fretless is amazing. I've been wanting a fretless for years, decades even, I just never got around to it. I have to say, a lot of what pushed me to go for it was this forum and the recent articles talking about fretless basses and techniques.

Sadly, I also consider this a last Christmas present from my mom, who passed away earlier this year. I got a small bit of money from her estate so I figured this would be a great thing to do with it...
