Someone local, Ken? Would a fellow Motown-ite know its owner?

Maybe. Especially if you were following bands in the '60s. I will post more info and some pics if I can get permission. Some of the pics may be copywritten so I will check first.

So how are you going to tell the owner that you "accidently" lost the bass or that the dog chewed it up and you had to throw it out, or that your little sister scribbled all over it?
You would not believe the amount of 62 stratocasters that I have collected using one of those excuses...
Eden.

His dog did a little work on it!

He stayed here while the work was done.
I sent him the link to this theard and after reading it he sent me the following:
Wow Kenneth you got a lot of feedback on ol' blondie I checked and I bought it on March 17, 1972 for $340.00. The serial number is LB***
He still has the receipt and told a funny story on how he bought it at that price.

What a nice bass. Interesting features for a Feb. '72. Too bad about the original pickup; love that era. And it's an MG!
Tell him I'll give him 3 times the $340 - that's a pretty good return, don't you think?

That's so cool I'm using the pics to combat the summer heat wave down here! What a rare and wonderful bass!

Well here we go. The name of the band was The Bishops. Here are a few pics:

Here is a promotional poster where they played with The Grateful Dead at the Grande Ballroom. The Grande was owned by Russ Gibb. He is the one who started the "Paul is dead" rumours.

Not that one. He actually didn't care for it as much as a 4001. He had 2 or 3 other 4001's prior to the one I posted here. They are all also history. He does have the Hofner thought plus a few more picked up along the way.
