I have a MXR Dyna Comp, and it does the job just fine for me, but I am planning on getting a Janglebox in the near future!

I'd heard good things about the MXR Dynacomp on the Rickenbacker forum, but I tried it out at Sam Ash and it was just too dirty. I like the clarity and transparency of the Boss CS-3, but it doesn't really nail that Byrds tone I'm looking for. Maybe the Janglebox JB2 will be different.

To be honest, I'm getting a pretty good sound from the patch I designed for my Rickenbacker on my Boss GT-3 multi-effects unit (heavy compression, a boost in the high frequency EQ, and a little reverb). It makes my high gain pickups sound a lot like toaster tops. But it doesn't come close to those sound clips on the Janglebox website. Can't wait to try out that JB2!

You can dial in great chime with the Diamond compressor, and its dead quiet! This link also has a sound clip using a 330:

I was just going to suggest a Diamond compressor. I've got the bass version and it sounds amazing.

I use a Maxxon CP-9 Pro+.
After trying out 6 or 7 compressors for an hour or so it felt like the most versitile.
All the knobs actually do something. I found for my playing style the Maxxon offered the best compression while leaving th most sparkle.
I thought the MXR Dynacomp made everything sound dull, and the Keeley did not seem to do too much.

Also....I use TONS of effects. This may have alot to do with my findings. The Maxxon still sounds great with a POG---Whammy----Mega Distortion and Memory Man hitting it.


oh one more thing.....has anyone else ever tried placing a microphone near the strings of their 12 string while also recording it direct to a computer? I have gotten some great jangle/harpsichord sounds that way....it gives you a great option to have the attack of your instrument recorded to seperate track.

I picked up one of these as well Erik. Very transparent and again, dead quiet. I don't play without it!

All this compressor talk got me going and I broke out my old Ross yesterday to mess around with it. Had some fun toying with it. It can be a cool tool.

I use two live - a Dynacomp and an old orange DOD 280. Gotta say, although the MXR is set for the 360/12 and the DOD is set for the Tele (differences in output kinda force this) I really really like the DOD for both. Wish it was easier to adjust quickly and not so sensitive.

I'd like to try out a JB but there aren't many around in Arkansas...never cared for the CS-3. Boss' stuff is a little too noisy for me.

If you think the Boss compressors are noisy, you'll dislike the JB. The JB I used to own was a hiss factory.

+1000 on the Diamond. Very quiet.

The Ross compressor is the one that many many others are patterned after . . . those are quite collectible for some folks.

I have a Dynacomp which I am happy with. I saw Whirlwind released the Byrdbox at NAMM. But there is not much detail on it I can find. Wondering what they will cost. I saw some other forum posts saying it would be 50%-60% of the cost of a JB. Which is it was in the $100 range would be worth checking out. Anyone heard anymore details on the Byrdbox?

I've heard it should hit the shops around March time.
If it truly is as quiet as reported, and at that price, it could be very interesting.

It sure looks interesting. And I like the controls.

I have a MXR Super Comp (the charcoal-gray one), and it sounds fine with my 360/12 C63......but if I really want to nail the jingle-jangle thing, I grab my 370/12 RM with the on-board compressor....IMHO, nothing really compairs.
