I guess it would be shameful for Ampeg to sell the "new" heritage series at a higher price than the normal **** Vietnam production.

They should instead sell the Vietname prod. at half the price and sell the "new" heritage series at the same price of the old US production.

I read the Heritage series is "designed and assembled in the US." NOT, made in the US.

That's cool and all, but....meh... I'm no fan of Loud Tech and I hate what they've done to an iconic American brand. The fact is, there's so much used Ampeg stuff out there from the past 40 years, I have no use for the new stuff. I have a '96 SVT III Pro, '74 V-4B, and '74 SVT - the be all, end all of bass amplification!

I really like my all-tube, made in the USA Ampegs (SVT-CL/410HLF and a B15R).

It's too bad that they've recently irritated many of their customers. I too, would recommend buying a used one if you're in the market for a nice tube amp.

I played through my B15R last night. It just has something that my Markbass doesn't. The Markbass is good if you want LOUD and light. But like I've said before, I prefer the tone from my Ampegs.

It's not the loudest amp, and it is heavy. But if you're not playing with a Jimmy Chamberlin or a John Bonham, or if you just use it at home or in the studio...I like it.

And even though it is around 110 lbs, you can carry the head separate from the cab/dolly so that makes it easier for little guys like me to transport.

I wish I had brought it to RIO for you (and Jeff S, John A, Steve W, and everyone else there) to check out.

i played thru a buddy's b15n in the late '70's. it was a late 60's and looked like the one above only it had pointer knobs like the hiwatts have. michael anthony used those to record the early van halen albums. they had great tone. always wanted to modify one to have a preamp like the first channel of the svt with the midrange control...it would kill !!!!

I keep thinking about picking up a SVT, but want to stay clear of the foreign made models. Anyone here have an opinion regarding the VR? This was the 70's reissue model (made in the US), that came out a few years ago.

find a pre '79...there are tons in toronto area. look in the "buy and sell" ! there used to be tons 'o schtuff in that paper.

JEFF...not the same as the svt ... vol. treble w/hi-lo boost, mid with 3 feq. boost and toroidal inductor, bass w/hi-med-lo boost. very versatile and no gain boost to cause any un necessary distortion.

I'm keeping my eyes open Ronbo, but I haven't seen a vintage SVT listed locally for a while. I checked Ebay and there are currently a couple of 70's SVT's listed, but they're $3K+ ( ). That's why I was wondering if the SVT VR might be an option as its supposed to be a reissue of the classic 70's SVT.
