Very early toasters were wound to around 5k ohms, and the mid-late 60s say some 6.5-6.8k too.

Interesting, makes me wonder if there is a real sonic difference between a 5K and a 7.3K.
As far as i know, the less the pick up is wound, the lower the output, but better reproduction of natural sound of the bass.

Basing on what you said, Macca's 4001 had a 5K Toaster .... cool ....

I've considered unwinding one of my converted higain/toaster coils to around 5k just to see what it's like. I've considered a 5-6k coil for the bridge too. Hmmmm........

Someone on the other Ric forum has done that. In theory it should sound like a lower output high gain and maybe a little thinner. The rubberized ceramic magnet is very different from the Alnico used in toasters. I have an unwound 7 k new style hi-gain but have not found a project guitar to install it in. Maybe a Tele???

As part of my higain to toaster conversion, in addition to unwinding, I put in alnico5 magnet rods and remove the bar magnet.
