which also makes you wonder if the short scale set MIGHT work,(if short scale is 32").........that is VERY cool about the new roundcore strings. i am liking the old maximas on my 4000 so much,i would like to find something similar for my other basses.

I ordered them, I'll probably review them in the fretless forum after I get them installed (along with other changes).

Follow up: they've been on my 4001FL since I fixed it up to my liking a couple months ago and they make for a really great woody sound. Not a radical departure from TI JF344s but the tension on the Pyramids feels so much more "right" to my fingers and the bass took to them perfectly (the neck is as thin as a piece of paper too). If there is anything weird about them it's that the E string doesn't sustain audibly in its harmonics, i.e. it's almost pure fundamental in some of the lower notes (a Ric-ish tendency anyways that is really amplified by this string). Not a problem unless you're doing lots of melodic stuff on that string, but who is? In practice this works great.

You can hear a tiny glimpse of the way the bass sounds on my SoundClick page with the 4001FL-titled track.

That bass sounds like honey!
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

I think short scale pyramids are 30”. They´re too short (except D string) for Starfire which has about 31” scale. I have Pyramids on my Starfire. I ordered them straight from Pyramid factory. They made them according to specifications I gave them. Special length to fit Starfire and gauges according to my likings (which were actually their std short scale gauges). Strings were manufactured in May 2010 so I guess they´re round cores(?) What a wonderful strings they are! Tension is higher compared to TI´s but not much, and definitely lower compared to Rotosound 77 Jazz flats. I haven´t tried them on my Rick but on Starfire the sound is rich with plenty of low end without being muddy (even with those horrible DeArmond “mudbuckers” I unfortunately still have on my Starfire).
