Hi Andy,

This may be a silly idea - but has the magnet on the bridge pickup become partially degaussed? Given the strong reading for the coil, it is either this or something very strange happening with the harness....

Hi Evan,

I wish I could tell you... I have no way of knowing. I asked a similar question to the guys at Better Music here in Canberra. They shrugged their shoulders and admitted they had no idea, and no idea what to do about it should that be the case.

I'm really not sure how to progress this issue short of spending another $225.00 on a replacement pickup which can't be sold to me directly because I am outside of the USA.

Cheers

Andy

Those magnets don't really degauss they are not like an AlNiCo magnet or a dodgy horseshoe either...

In Australia pickup rewinders are few.

Chris Kinman in queensland could be an option.
Jim Dyson in sydney could be another..
I'd probably sent it to Sergio!

But first it needs to be checked by someone who Knows Rickenbackers as it could be something simple and silly..
I may be able to help (See PM)

I wouldn’t buy another pickup – yet. (Got myself a toaster pickup really cheap because it was said to be dead. A new cable and it works great.) The first ting I would do is to swap the signal leads from the pickups on the selector switch. (A simple unsolder/resolder job.) After doing that, if the problem has moved from the bridge to the neck pickup, then at least you’ll know it’s not the pickup but something else.
