Egad! That wood is horrible. You’d think that they’d at least paint it a solid color.
…then again all that lead would probably make it too heavy.

I try to do the same as much as realistically possible. Sometimes that is not possible, however. To me, high quality comes first, such as the Leica binoculars I have, which obviously, is not USA made.
