Didn't RIC do this for him when they replaced the dead horsie with a higain back in the '70s?

more squire like !

this is the rear pickup setup i got from RIC in '85 that went on my '64 4001s/rm1999.
It's funny. Everyone seems to have their own preferences regarding the V63/C64/RM RI. Some want small horns, some want a small neck, some want magnetized horseshoes, some want the longer headstock, some are bothered by a 7 screw tail piece, some don't like an upside down headstock, some prefer the nickle reverse tuners, some want a black nut, some want the tug-bar, some like the early V63 pickup surround, some want a pick guard that goes all the way to the surround...and the list goes on.
My own ideal RI RM bass would look like this:

Only I'd put a non-scooped pickup surround on, the all-black vintage knobs, and the tug-bar (at least...until I figured out if it was gonna bug me!)

I love the color contrast on the headstock on that bass.

Yes. The magnets were dead on the HS, so RIC custom wound a hi-gain for him. His bass now has a RI horseshoe in it.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what **are** the differences between an made for the Japanese market RM1999 and a V63? (aside from the perspex tug bar)
Cheers

From where I'm sitting it looks like a black nut, nickle tuners, tug-bar and a more proper shaped guard.
All of which my V63 will have along with an old aluminum tailpiece soon.
