There were a number of one-offs in the '60s. Here's an interesting one from 1963:

I suppose I should give a bit of background on this particular doubleneck. It was for sale about 10 years ago by John Slog of Guitar Villa in PA. He sent me some photos of it but we couldn't agree on a price and then it was gone. He told me it was a special order and dated to 1963. This is the only photo of it that I could find.

Perhaps someone else has more information on this particular doubleneck. The description of the "Tommy Page" doubleneck on page 216 of the Smith book, also produced in 1963, does not match this one.

Be interesting to hear the story on that particular doubleneck.

Somewhere out there is or was a 4080/12/6. Actually it was a 4080/12 Burgundyglo which came with a third 6 string neck, separately. Interchangeable, I presume. :D

Thank you for your nice pic of that amazing '63 doubleneck, Ron. I had never seen one like that! Pretty neat to be able to play bass and lead or rythmn on the same guitar.

Again my thanks to all the posts in answer to my doubleneck question....One question for Jeff though - about your pic of Mark Rutherford - who did he play with? He looks very familiar but I can't place him in my music history knowledge.....

Mike Rutherford is a founding member of Genesis. There is a little discussion of his Rickenbacker doubleneck on Wikipedia:
