Can someone tell me how to upload an image, please I have taken a few pictures that I think you will enjoy.

By the way, since getting the 4004L I have become fully accustomed to the thicker neck and it now feels very natural to me.

Also, I took the bass to band practice last week and it definitely has more presence and bottom end than the 4003, although the boys think that the 4003 is a bit more impressive, looks-wise on stage. What can I say? I love em both so I would probably make the worst judge!

However, I recorded a track for my band with the L and it sounds very, very nice! Full bass and bottom end with subtle Ric tone thrown in (sort of like tasting a great red wine ). If it's ok with everyone, I'll post the link to our myspace when we are done mixing and mastering so you can hear for yourselves.

Finally, I will be taking the bass for a typical set-up tomorrow, as my action is quite high (very high, actually) and hopefully solve the "flat" E-string and a couple of dead spots that I have found.

Either way, I love this bass and these minor things cannot turn me off from it!

John, you were right: Ι picked up the 4004 this week from set up and it sounds amazing! Action is perfect now, the strings sound louder and gone is the dullness of the E string. Heaven!

A couple of quick questions, though, since we're on the matter:

a) Why on earth would Rickenbacker set the action so high out of the factory? Is there a reason perhaps having to do with tension and maintaining a proper neck? In other words, "we ship it like this for a reason but make sure it's properly set up before the customer receives it"?

b) The guitar tech, who was very knowledgeable, told me that in his experience Ricks are "very particular" in their truss rods and that I was "lucky" mine worked properly (he had had Ricks taken to him for set up whose truss rods were very difficult or impossible to adjust).

The basses are gorgeous, im a 4004 lover myself and am with you that I feel they do have a better thicker and fuller bottom end than the 4003's, im not knocking 4003's I own three of them and love them but I love the 4004';s both Larado's and Cii's, they are more of traditionally what a bass sounds like and are a bass I would use on every tune where as the 4003's due to thier sound I only use for certain applications. as far as the couch, I swear to you my parents had the same style couch when I was a very, very little kid (about a thousand years ago lol) so I would be the last person on earth you would recieve any ribbing from.

+1, Angelo! My 4003 "peliroja" is great and I love her but the 4004 is more "proper" in the way you described it!

BTW, I recorded a new track with my band and I think you guys will flip when you hear the tone! I can't post it just yet but I will when I can. In the meanwhile, hear the 4004 for yourselves in this track we recorded very recently:

It's the first one and it's professionally done. The others will also be re-recorded eventually.

Told you so, told you so!

a)RIC sets up the basses in a generic average setup way. Remember that different temp/humidity conditions will affect any bass setup and it probably moved from when it left the factory. I personally find the nut slots from the factory too shallow and need them deeper.

b)I've found Rick double truss rods to be the easiest to set up and keep the neck in place - the best over any other rod system I've seen or tried. So I respectfully question the "knowledgeability" of this tech. Not trying to stir the pot.......

George, the sound is awsume, I really liked the tune, you guys are good, im am a friend of your site now on myspace, goog job.
