I'm curious about the headstock. Would a 1988 4003S have had walnut wings?
BTW, the RIC Serial Number Decoder actually says "Your guitar was manufactured in Mary of 1988"
...hope Mary's OK...

Bob,
You're right, but European gear is also twice more pricey when it's sold in the USA... Warwick or Ashdown are two examples among many others.

Well, I may be interested in a 1988 4003S anyway. How much do you think it is worth ? I thought about 750 / 800 EUR...
Cheers,
JL

those are NOT walnut head wings ... LOOK CLOSER!!!!
Somebody stripped the fireglo finish off of the maple center piece and left the fireglo finish on the maple headwings ... from a distance this resembles a walnut headwing ...

I emailed the seller and told him that the serial number translated to a 1988 4003S and that in good conscience, he should end his auction to avoid possibly swindling some poor soul. Whether he does or not is up to him and his conscience.

I would like to have that bass,,,as long as he was honest about the date and that little "modification". It is a cool idea and looks like he did a nice job (well, somebody did). I love an unbound neck on a Ric bass. I think it's time to save up and go hunting for a 4003s.

To be fair on the seller, he has now changed the description to include the serial number. Interesting observation on the headstock strip Jeff!
His buy now price is still way high, but thats just Xmas eBayitus

Yes, he updated the info. I don't think he's dishonest. But I want to stay careful anyway.
I'm currently the highest bidder. If I win the auction, I'll drive the 1,000 miles round trip to pick up the bass.
Cheers,
JL
