I had the guitar in the shop for a set up and bridge replacement (standard non-roller) shortly after I bought it in 1994. The original bridge has been in the case ever since. This is the first time I've really looked at it since then.
Yes, the nuts are on backwards. The previous owner apparently did that for some reason. I believe the grommets were originally supposed to be on the top side of the bridge, but again the previous owner messed with it. Actually it makes sense to have them on the bottom since what usually happens is that one of the four height adjust screws works loose and rattles. Grommet on the bottom keeps the screw from moving upwards (assuming there is room between the bridge and the bridge plate for the grommet).
grazioso--the difference we're talking about are the faint impressions on the bottom of the u-shaped bridge piece, not the keeper nuts.
