Sorry gang, I can't believe this is my first post for nearly 2 years - where does time go?! _ I dunno I buy a Fender Strat and the Rickys get forgotten about.

Anyway I've still got me Rickys , still got my scooter and I'm still here!

Back 'ere in dear ol' Blighty it's common knowledge amongst us Smiffs fans that Mr Marr played a Ricky 12-string on This Charming Man.

There was a radio BBC programme on (goodness knows how many years ago now) on which Mr Marr was extolling the virtues of the Ricky 12-string - in fact it was that exact programme that inspired me to go in search of a 12-string of my own (although it has to be said a 381/12 it a little extravagant!)

I've seen him playing a Jetglo 360/12, but to say he was such an advocate of the Ricky, it's not his most oft played guitar - he seems to prefer Gibsons (as, it would seem. does Mr Weller these days!).

Is there any footage of John Marr playing his 1993?

Yes and no: Haven't bought an album, but I like a few songs, "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out", "Ask Me", "This Charming Man", "Still Ill", "Bigmouth Strikes Again"

I know, the first band I like out after 1980!

This was an '81 or '82, and they didn't make a huge amount of 330's those years from what I remember. The tuners were the weird, square-ish boxy klusons or gotohs... forgot which.

I also like the way the lower horn is not very sharp, kinda stubby.

What amps did John Marr use? I can see he's got a Blackface Showman/Dual Showman, and I saw a performance on "Rock Goes to College" on John playing through either a Blackface standard or Silverface Master Volume Twin Reverb.

Marr is a longstanding Fender Twin Reverb enthusiast. He said something about his ultimate guitar being a 20 foot Rickenbacker played through a 20 foot Fender Twin.

In addition to the Showman behind him, he also likes the Super Reverb, and in a recent video, said he likes the Tweed Champ for studio work.

He used a Roland JC-120 on the first Smiths album, as well as a 50's tweed Fender Pro. Meat is Murder, he was using both the JC-120 and a Blackface Twin Reverb, sometimes simultaneously, and the Twin was his main amp from The Queen Is Dead on.

I'm sure there were a fair number of other amps involved once he was a little famous, because he's such a gear hound.
